Job description: Employment Specialist
Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Summary:

The Employment Specialist empowers individuals with disabilities to explore career opportunities, secure meaningful employment, and achieve long-term workplace success. Through employer outreach, job development, career coaching, job coaching, and ongoing support, this position helps individuals build skills, increase independence, and reach their employment goals. The Employment Specialist serves as a liaison between individuals, employers, families, funding sources, and agency staff to ensure successful and sustainable employment outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following.

  • Promote the philosophy of community integration and employment for person with disabilities.
  • Develop new employer contacts within the community to offer and promote our employment services.
  • Develop and nurture long term relationships with community partners and employers.
  • Initiate employer contacts on behalf of individuals seeking community based employment.
  • Develop employment opportunities to meet the mutual needs of individuals and employers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of job development and case management activities.
  • Assist individuals in job seeking skills, i.e. career exploration, resume development, job markets, job seeking tools and interviewing skills.
  • Develop and provide community job shadow and informational interviews for individuals in career exploration.
  • Provide case management services to include written PCP's, monthly reports, case notes and attendance at staffing. Complete written task/job analysis and orientation for newly place employment.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate clients goals related to employment success.
  • Participation in Chamber of Commerce events and activities.
  • Provide skills training and coaching in community-based employment.
  • Facilitate and maintain contact with funding sources, employers, agency staff, clients and significant others regarding clients' progress towards employment goals.
  • Keep Director of Employment Services informed of case developments.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

Location/Schedule:

  • West Bend, WI - some travel required to job sites.
  • Monday-Friday - some flexibility depending on clients needs

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate Degree and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Preferable skill background set (HR/Marketing/Sales/Staffing/Customer Service).

Language Skills:

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer / Technology Skills:

  • Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel; Internet Explorer

Work Environment

  • It is largely dependent upon where clients are placed and where staff need to job coach; could be in an office setting or in a factory.

Transportation:

  • Essential duties typically require a valid WI driver's license, a good driving record, and access to an adequately insured vehicle.

This position’s work is categorized as:

Light Work. Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
